Return of the Autumn frills

The crisp air of autumn has arrived with its shorter days, cooler nights and vivacious red and orange leaves falling from the trees. Those home accessories that were put away gladly for the summer season are gradually starting to creep back into our homes. However unlike Christmas decorations (Who mentioned the word Christmas!?), we want to mix things up to prevent our homes from looking the same year upon year. Taking a look at the new favourites, we show you how to keep your home looking fresh yet warm and inviting with Autumn’s best selection of accessories.

Autumn Blankets

The blanket – We all remember the blanket in friend’s houses with parents too stingy to turn on the heating, whilst our snowmen were sitting in the garden looking warmer than we were. However the blanket has made a comeback this year and creates the Scandi look we have all been desperately trying to achieve within the home. Fur or knit, cotton or cashmere, throws look great tossed over the end of an ottoman or sofa arm, perfect for those cold nights in with a cup of hot chocolate, or mulled wine for those more adventurous. The indoor blanket movie nights are certainly taking over from the outdoor cinema evenings, where those blankets just can’t quite stop the chill from getting to us in this cooler season. If we don’t have to turn the heating on, we can still pretend it’s summer and what better way to do that than with an accessory that looks just as great off us as on.

Kate-Moss-Interiors

The velvet sofas and ottomans– The velvet sofas showcased in a room from The Lakes by Yoo, designed by Kate Moss, show how velvet no longer looks old and can create real opulence and style within a space. Come on Kate Moss – move over and let us have a chance at something! You can snuggle up into a velvet cushion backed sofa or rub your thick sock clad feet into a velvet ottoman, done in the right colour and more importantly in the right style, they bring chic texture to the living space. Complimented perfectly with metal side tables and a contemporary lacquered coffee table, sit on top of a linen rug to tone down the shine of the fabric.

open fire

The fire – As much for its warmth as for its ability to toast marshmallows, an open, contemporary and innovative fire place is what all of our living spaces need this Autumn. Whether that is in the kitchen, in the dining room or in the living room a contemporary fire is an absolute must to freshen up our homes and keep us nice and toasty as the rain runs down the windows outside. For those where one flame just isn’t quite enough, hang a low shelf above a kitchen island or dining table and cover in glowing candles for extra warmth.
